Overlake Announces Themselves, Dropping Northshore 14-10
Overlake's first big game as a Division 1 team comes in the first game of the season. After Northshore downed Skyline last Friday night, the Owls would be working against an experienced playoff contender. Northshore's depth has been depleted with Woodenville starting a team, but the Wismans remain. Overlake was able to neutralize the potent pair, and come away with a victory.
Overlake entered this game down two starters on an already thin roster. Overlake would need huge contributions from "the triplets"- Erik Risa (Midfield), Barrett Jenness (Attack), and Curtis Yokayama (Midfield). Three freshmen being thrown to the wolves this year.
At the 8:23 mark in the first quarter Overlake found themselves down 4 - 0, and true to form 3 of those goals were from Foster Wisman and the fourth was assisted by Taylor Wisman. Overlake called a timeout. Out of the timeout, Overlake held a two minute possession on offense, ending with their first goal of the night from Scout Tweedie-Yates. The second goal came in a similar fashion. Scout scored off an assist from twin brother Sky, followed by a third goal scored by Barrett Jenness 2:21 left on the clock.
The second quarter would start with an Overlake 3-minute advantage related to an illegal stick. Barrett Genness netted his second goal of the night on a bullet feed from Sky to knot the game at 4. Northshore was held to 1 goal in the second, ending the half tied 5 - 5.
Overlake came out firing in the Second half and and scored the first three goals of the second half. The Owls 8-5 lead would never change the rest of the game. the third quarter ended 9 -7 Overlake.
Though the Wisman boys, combined for 10 points, Bus added one, and Murphy another in the final total, it wouldn't be enough. Northshore drops to 1-1, unable to recover from a 14 -10 deficit. In spite of the loss, both Foster and Taylor have averaged 6 points or better in each of two games.
