Lake Washington wins first ever home opener
The Lake Washington Kangaroos opened their first ever HS game tuesday night in front of a great crowd supporting the new program. The "Roos" would start things off with a bang scoring just 10 seconds into the game setting the tone against visiting 2009 semi finalist Redmond.
One of the reasons Redmond was were they were last year was the play of the Bernstein Boys. Jake , a sophomore would score the opening goal right off the face-off vining LW a one goal lead. Redmonds Casey Downey would find rope evening the score at 1 Apiece. LW would continue to control much of the possesion time and the pace as a slow first half would see a lot of loose ball play and turnovers.
A pair of Mitch Meyers goals followed by Quentin Behrs tally would give the host team a 4-2 lead at half. Lake Washingtons midfield would do most of the damage throughout the game dodging and feeding as well as transistioning the ball numerous times in the second half.
1st team All American candidate Jake Bernstein would pick-up where he left off finding his brother Cody pushing the lead to 5-2 in the 3rd period.
Though Redmond struggled to manage quality possesions they did make a push late in the third period with back to back goals by Brad Bomberry and Joe Mernaugh cutting the lead to 1, 5-4 at the end of the third.
That would be last of the cheering for Redmond as LW would rattle off 5 straight goals before defeating Redmond 10-4.
