The Bainbridge 300 handle Curtis

Right from the start of the opening whistle, the Bainbridge Spartans let everyone know that they had come to play. Bjorn Ostenson would score the game’s first goal just under a minute into the game and his team would not look back. Lead by a stymie defense, solid goalie play and a dominating performance by the senior captain Kevin Nguyen, Bainbridge is in play-off form. Photos by Michael Jardine*

In front a fairly descent crowd on a beautiful Friday evening the home Spartans would put on an offensive clinic against the visiting Curtis Vikings. Cameron Parker would get his first of the night just 1 minute after Ostenson opened the gates. Curtis’ Taylor Dean who would end up scoring 5 of the Vikings 9 would find his first on the games first man up situation. Assisted by Landon Carr, that would be Deans only assisted goal as he would try to take matters into his own hands scoring his next 4 unassisted throughout the game.

Following Dean in the first quarter it was Nguyen, Sam Deery-Schmitt, Sam Snow, Ostenson, Wagner and Parker all having their way with the Viking defense. Scramble situations, set plays, one on one dodging, it didn’t matter as the Spartan offense shot the ball extremely well rarely missing the cage and constantly testing Curtis Goalkeeper Mitchell Homeyer.

When the first half came to close, Stand out Attackmen Sam Snow would have 5 goals, Nguyen with 5 and Parker/Ostenson 2 apiece. Usually and historically this season it has been Bainbridge’s attack that has put points up on the board sneaking behind teams defense and creating opportunities from behind. Tonight the midfield was able to apply the pressure and with dodgers getting their hands free and having virtually no contested shots, it was hard for Curtis to stop the rhythm being displayed. Something I did not see coming took us into halftime with Bainbridge leading 15-1.

There was a little flair for Curtis however in the second half as they would outscore Bainbridge 8-4 in the final two periods but it truly was just not enough. Taylor Dean who again would show no quit throughout the game intended on showing what he was made of scoring 1 goal in the 3rd and 3 in the 4th. Dean’s brother Brandon would get in on the action as would Face-off specialist Johnny Shapton and even goalie Mitchell Homeyer would run down the field unscathed scoring a low bounce shot in the fourth period. Under Armor All American Landon Carr was held to just one assist on the night.

Kevin Nguyen would score his 6th goal in the third period ending the contest as the game high points getter with 8 unofficially. Not to be outdone but Snows 5 goals were also equally impressive tonight.

Both teams face a difficult challenge for their next games as Curtis faces undefeated Mercer Island and Bainbridge will play Lincoln from the state Oregon on Saturday @ Bainbridge.

Carr was shut down with some

Carr was shut down with some great lock-offs by Will Indvik and Dugie. K-Nug and Sam had huge games.... Kevin had a hat trick in the first quarter and both Snow and Kevin had at least 6 points each.....
